Titleist has involved all their tour players in the making of the SM5 wedge and the general feedback was that the TX3 grooving technology needed to be different to help control the ball throughout the lofts. The SM5 46 to 54 lofts come with deeper narrower grooves to reduce the chances of getting a flier from the rough, while the 56 to 62 come with deeper more aggressive grooving for more spin and consistency around the green. The Titleist SM5 wedge range has been made from 8620 carbon steel for precision, feel and distance control. The workmanship that goes into the making of the SM5 is amazing, each groove is individually cut slower to increase the tolerances and consistency of the groove edge.
