The extended tube of the BP4071L concentrates pickup sensitivity more tightly on-axis than the short BP4071, providing measurably higher rejection of off-axis sound in the midrange. Boom operators can work at increased distances from the subject while maintaining an acceptable signal-to-noise ratio, which is essential when physical proximity to the talent is restricted by choreography, safety requirements, or camera framing.
