The FiiO SP3 is equipped with a 3.5-inch carbon fiber mid-woofer, which is larger than comparable products in its class. These larger woofers have an inherent advantage over smaller woofers in terms of dynamics, projecting a larger soundstage, and other sonic characteristics. Whether it's movies or music, this woofer is able to express the magnitude of the sound even at higher volumes. Carbon fiber is extremely strong and rigid, yet lightweight - the ideal properties for a speaker driver. The light weight of carbon fiber allows for a fast transient response of the woofer, while the high strength and rigidity of carbon fiber reduces nonlinear distortion by minimizing unwanted secondary vibrations as the driver moves while producing sound. Overall, the carbon fiber material of the woofer contributes to a faithful sound reproduction and immerses you even deeper in your high fidelity experience. Each carbon fiber in the SP3 is only 0.007mm thick - the thickness of a single hair. These fibers are intertwined, which helps improve sound quality by ensuring a wrinkle-free diaphragm and making the diaphragm stronger and more resistant to cracking after prolonged movement and use of the driver.
In a powered desktop speaker, the tweeter often plays a critical role in reproducing fine musical details, instrumental overtones, and overall high-frequency resolution. Unlike many other powered desktop speakers that use a ¾-inch tweeter, the SP3 uses a 1-inch tweeter that can produce frequencies up to 35kHz. The tweeter's copper-clad KSV aluminum voice coil ensures that ultra-high frequencies are not compressed even at high volumes - the result is better high-frequency reproduction even when listening off-axis, as well as high-resolution highs with natural timbre.
