Rising to fame in the early 1980s, he scored hits with "Someday, Someway," "Cynical Girl," and "Whenever You're on My Mind." His sound draws from classic soul and early rock and roll, often drawing comparisons to Buddy Holly, whom he portrayed in the film La Bamba.
