The crossgrade is a discounted way into Massive XL for qualifying owners of other Native Instruments products; the exact eligibility is checked by Native Instruments during registration. You get the full Massive XL synthesizer with its larger engine, new creative tools and workflow improvements.

Generate and Mutate

The new Generate function analyses an audio file you drop in (WAV, AIFF, MP3 or FLAC) with a Native Instruments AI model and builds a fresh Massive XL preset from it, which you can then edit freely — oscillators, filters, modulation and effects. Built-in stem separation lets you pull bass, drums or vocals out of a full mix and use a single stem as the starting point, and Adjust Character controls appear after generation for quick shaping. Mutate creates variations of the loaded preset, either across the whole patch or only in selected modules such as the wavetable oscillator, noise, filter or effects, with Divergence setting how far the result moves away from the original. The Animator on the Play page adds movement without DAW automation.

More Sound Sources and Effects

Massive XL adds more than 100 retro-flavoured wavetables, 100 noise tables and the ability to build your own wavetables from imported samples. New effects include Raum with three reverb algorithms, the Replika Shimmer creative delay and Tape Wobble for lo-fi character. The library combines the Massive X sounds with more than 200 new presets, and existing Massive X expansions can be used in Massive XL.

Workflow and Compatibility

The interface keeps the Play, Edit and Browser areas and adds animated modulation display, context-sensitive help, undo and redo lists and sub-presets for filters and effects. Massive XL installs as a separate plug-in, so it can run alongside Massive X. It runs on Windows 10 and macOS 13 or newer, including Apple silicon, as VST, VST3, AU, AAX and standalone, and requires online activation.
