Paul Chambers was an influential American jazz double bassist, active throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Known for his work in hard bop and his distinctive bowed solos, he played a key role in rhythm sections of the era. Chambers anchored Miles Davis's first great quintet and later joined pianist Wynton Kelly. Over his career, he recorded more than 100 albums as a sideman and released several as a leader, leaving a lasting impact on jazz.
